Matt Smith is the founder and President of Dewfall Development and leads all development activities for the firm.  Prior to founding Dewfall, Matt served as the Chief Development Officer at Madison Capital Group where he spent two years managing a team of multifamily developers across the southeastern markets.  Through Matt’s leadership, Madison completed design, secured financing and commenced construction on over 2,600 units across ten multifamily projects totaling nearly $750 million with existing company-owned land.  Matt’s efforts also included owner oversite of nearly 20 multifamily projects under construction.

Previously, Matt served as Senior Vice President at Post Properties / MAA for ten years where led the team’s efforts in the southeastern region and was responsible for the development of over 3,000 apartments.  Prior to joining Post in 2013, he was Senior Vice President at Novare Group, a vertical, mixed-use developer, where he was involved in developing over 2,000 residential units over an eight-year period.

Matt began his career with the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games, where he worked for five years, ultimately becoming the youngest competition Venue Manager, responsible for the design, planning and execution of the 16-day, Olympic Volleyball tournament at the Omni Coliseum.  

Matt graduated from the University of North Carolina in 1992 with a bachelor’s degree and from Emory’s Goizueta Business School in 1999 with a master's in business administration.  He is a former member of the board of directors for Central Atlanta Progress, the Atlanta Downtown Market Study Technical Advisory Group and the ULI Livable Communities Council.
